food curiosity, and the Amazing Grass Winner

Thanks to everyone who entered the Amazing Grass Energy Bar giveaway. I used random.org to pick the winner, and it is number 100, Kelsey @carrothead! So Kelsey, send me your deets!

I'm the type of person who, while eating a meal, is already planning the next one. I have to, so that I can even everything out. My friend S was over for dinner the other night, salmon burgers with grilled asparagus and salad, and she commented on how healthy we eat. She wasn't here yesterday when we had family over for cheeseburgers with avocado and bacon as condiments. As I've said before, my mantra is everything in moderation....sometimes including moderation.

I'm so curious about how other people eat. When I'm on the checkout line at the grocery store, I look over what I have on the conveyor belt thing to see the ratio of good to bad foods. Then I get nosy, and look at what the people in front of me, as well as behind me have in their carts. If only I could go into their homes and see their fridges and cabinets, I would have a field day with that. If you're a fan of the Real Housewives of the O.C. there was an episode when Vicki and Jeana had a personal trainer go through their kitchens and toss all the crap......loved it.

What do you always have in your fridge? I always have fruit, veggies, cheese, butter, yogurt, yogurt smoothies for L&E, eggs, Amazing Grass and condiments such as salsa, real and light mayo, mustard, and salad dressings. Turkey and tuna for lunches, white wine for me, and Labatt's Blue for Mike. Milk and Italian Sweet Cream Coffee-Mate (I know it's bad, but I only use a bit in my one cup of coffee). The freezer always has black bean burgers, ice cream (for the kids, seriously), sandwich thins, Ezekiel bread, ribeyes, chicken/feta/spinach sausage, chicken nuggets, butternut squash ravioli, some kind of frozen pizza and frozen fruit and veggies.

I won't go into a full blown description of the cabinets, but my fridge speaks for itself, I eat everything, just not all at once. My kids eat fruits and veggies, and I let them have sweets because I want them to learn how to incorporate those foods into their life if they choose to do so, I hope they never have an internal battle over "forbidden foods" like I do.

So tell me, what do you always have in your fridge? Better yet, take a photo of your fridge and email it to me! Just kidding. Well.....maybe not.

Ahh, timing is everything! I was noticing how nice and neat your fridge is--I intend to get into mine today and toss some old stuff. But normally, mine is full of produce, hummus, yogurts, cheeses, turkey breast, veg. juice, and whatever meats/fish are on the menu for the week.

I always look at what people are buying too! One time I was looking at this man and thinking how unhealthy his choices were. Then realization hit me that I had hot dogs and soda in my hand :) I hope you have a great week!

I will not take a picture of my fridge for public consumption because its a mess right now! Cleaning it is on my to-do list for this week!

So interesting to read about what's in people's refrigerators, its fascinating! I always have lots veggies, stuff for salads, a variety of fresh herbs, lemons and limes, milk, Greek yogurt, eggs, butter, several kinds of cheese, hummus, juice (for the hubby), water, unsweetened ice tea, one or two bottles of champagne, just in case, usually a bottle of wine, and always lots of leftovers. I'm only cooking for two here, so we end up with a lot leftover that I generally recycle into other meals.

I'm like you. Everything in moderation. If the bulk of what we take in is healthy, the little treats in small quantities can be enjoyed. (every single day!) lol

Stopping by from SITS! I hope you had a great Monday.

I always have milk, yogurt (or at least the makings for yogurt), stone ground grits, juice, and salsa in the fridge. And butter, lots of butter! My produce drawer is jam-packed at the start of every week, but we usually go through it pretty quickly. And our freezer is packed with baked goods, nuts, frozen fruit, and coffee.

You're absolutely right, too--everything in moderation!

I always have quite a few veggies (bell peppers, fresh herbs, spinach, cabbage, carrots, etc.), yogurt, almond milk, cheeses and sandwich meats (for my husband), a Brita water pitcher, hummus, sour cream, eggs, and various mustards and condiments.

My freezer has a bunch of chicken breasts and ground turkey. There are a lot of frozen veggies (which we don't go through very fast), along with some frozen sprouted tortillas and the occasional ice cream treat!

HAHAHAHA! Hysterical! I roll the same way with food. This morning after I finished my coffee and cereal, I asked my wife what we're doing for dinner. She looked over at me and said "You're not serious, right?"
And I always check out what people eat at the grocery store as well. I am amazed sometimes when I ask students what they eat for the week. It would make you shudder.

You would not want to look in my fridge. Too much cheap junk food. We always have milk and apple juice and bread, but the rest varies. We always have some sort of frozen pizza.

Stopping by from SITS.
