I've wanted one for ages now, and this summer my BFF Dawn and I were talking about how we should just suck it up and do it. I decided to wait until after the marathon, as some kind of reward, so we went to LoveHate Tattoo Marathon weekend, and made our appointments.
I planned on a tattoo of a Celtic Cross, but they need to be really big for them to look right. Since I planned on putting it near my ankle, it needed to be smaller. I'm not artsy at all, but I doodled a little cross, and hoped they could work with it.
We went on Saturday, Dawn was really bugging out, I was nervous, but excited. We met Newt our artist, and he was very mellow, with 15 years experience under his belt. I wanted to go first, and it only took 20 minutes. It was really painful at times, oddly it hurt more when it was on my muscle, but I was happy with the end result.
Dawn's tattoo took longer, it went almost all the way around her ankle. I kept yapping away, trying to distract her, to help her out with the pain.
When we were finished, we both felt hyped up, I've had runners high, but there must also be some kind of tattoo high. Before we went back to the husbands and kids, we made a quick stop at our friend Brant's bar and pizza place, The Dragonfly, for a beer, and enjoyed our festive mood.

Cool tat! Love it!
Very nice, I like it!!!
Love your tat! There is definitely a tattoo high - something about all the adrenaline gets you all amped up I think :)
Glad you had a great experience!
That's a great one. And I love that his name was Newt..sounds like a perfect name for a tat artist!
Wow, I love it.
Good for you!
One you go tat, you never go back...there's more in your future!
I've never known anyone to have just one. Maybe one more for the other ankle? LOL! I can't deal with needles so I'm highly impressed!
Looks good!!
How bad does it hurt? I am REALLY wanting one, but am afraid to do it! I have wanted one for 10 years now... Not sure what just a word or phrase on my wrist :)
That is so cool. I love it. Good for you!!
Fantastic tattoo! I love the three that I have (all done after major milestones in my life)!

Nice looking tat! I'm with misszippy, Newt is the best name for a tattoo artist ever. Have a good week!
Cool! It looks a little 3D-ish!
I love it. So cool. And never say never....they are addicting (although I'm not sure if they are quit as addicting as they are when you get them ahem, younger)
Love the tatoo, was wondering what you were going to end up getting.
I don't have any tattoo (it is strange for a former sailor, isn't it?) but if I had to choose, it would be a celtic cross!
I like it, though its not a penquin, penquins are cool
It looks great- a very nice reward :)!
Very cool! The last ten years I have always wanted only one little tattoo. Ok, my son is with me right know, reading what I'm writing:) And he asked me 'is it true mom? He shocked! Haha..Anyway, it seems that it will take more then 10 years to decide to have one:)
I love that the tattoo artist's name was Newt. For some reason that made me laugh! It looks great and congrats on taking the plunge!
Fun! I agree about the addiction. I was already planning my second even before my first healed :-).
Love the new tattoo! Looks great! I don't think I could ever get a tattoo - I just would be too afraid of the pain.
Nice ink. it's similiar to what i want on my arm
I like your tattoo! I've had mine for about 3 years. Plan on getting another one sometime! :)
