I got a little nervous the other night about the marathon. It was bound to happen sometime, since it's now only four weeks away, and we're talking more about making hotel reservations and what we want to do after the race. I'm not in freak out mode, just a few butterflies. I have my 21 mile run planned for this Saturday, I'm sure after that I'll have a better idea of what I'm capable of. I know I can do it, it's just getting closer and closer to the day that I actually DO it.
My 12 miler this weekend was good, nothing out of the ordinary, it went by pretty quickly. When we got back to my house everyone was still in bed, so the kids didn't have too much of a chance to drive Daddy nuts before I got home. I used some waterproof first aid tape on my blister, and Ta-Daaaa! it's gone, and knock on wood, hasn't come back. But thanks for all the suggestions on how to get rid of that sucker.
I'm on a cleaning kick, and I've been going through boxes of cards, pictures, and things I've ripped out of magazines, I even found an inspirational card that I used to keep next to my computer at work. I read through two favorite poems, one is by Yeats that I associate with Mike, the other is by Elizabeth Barrett Browning that I associate with the kids (old blog post here). I get most of my inspiration from books.....and song lyrics, I have a few of my favorites on my blog sidebar. If you have a favorite quote or lyric, I'd love to hear it.
My summer of giveaways has ended.....and without further delay, the winner of the Nathan Speed 2R fuel belt is Elizabeth, from Highway to Health! (I used random.org to pick the winner). Congrats Elizabeth, email me your address and I'll get it right out to you!

Four weeks to go sounds like it's just around the corner. My next big race is that same weekend. I'm getting really excited as well. I've got a book where I write my favorite quotes. Should get them on PC some time. Have a good week!
Wow your race is coming fast! Wish I'd get the urge to clean one of these days.
Great poem and I will look up that HBO series. Here is a sappy inspiration song that makes me think of my wife (the lyrics start around 2:10 or so). Coltrane and Johnny Hartman. A fall or winter night...this album playing...

Holy cow!! 4 weeks! I bet you are getting excited!
Hope that blister stays away!
Keep up the great training!
Sounds like your training is going well! Glad to hear that the blister is gone!
Congrats, Elizabeth.
I've been busy clearing and cleaning too. I think it's the "back to school" in me that wants things to be organized and clutter-free. Right now, it's an organized mess.
If it helps, I felt that my 20+ mile training runs were more difficult than the actual marathon my first time around.
Funny, I'd never pulled any lyrics with substance from Beastie Boys, guess I'll have to listen closer.
Sounds like you are doing great, I'm sure that the 21 mile run will be a breeze for you.
yay for great training!
Keep it up!
21 miler coming up!!!! get in the zone !
Hey if you run out of things to clean at your place you are more than welcome to come over to my house and continue that cleaning kick!!
I'll have to try some of that tape on my toes - I need some help getting my blisters under control too. Happy Monday!
You just have race nerves, you are ready, with the miles you have been putting in, you will rock your race, enjoy the reward for all your hard work you have put in
Good job! Don't let the idea of the 21 miler get the better of you! You will rock it I am sure!
I am so excited! The marathon is really starting to get close!! Yippie!!! I am sure I will be going into my cleaning mode soon as we are heading into fall/winter!
Yeah that your training is going so well!
I kinda chuckled about your cleaning up the magazine clippings, etc. I had 2 huge boxes of clippings that I've toted from home to home for years. I threw them all out before we listed the house. I just couldn't take it anymore.
Because my first 2 years of running have been filled with injuries that tend to get me down, I've got this quote on my Road ID:
Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional.
I am starting week 1 of my training next Monday. It has been great getting a preview of what's ahead for me from your experiences. Look how far you have come!
Can't believe that the weeks are flying by! Good work with week 15!
Oh goodness, I just got nervous hearing you say 4 weeks. I have 2 months left and am really feeling anxious about it. Nice job with the 12 miler and good luck with the 21!
You're an inspiration to many! Your race may just be around the corner, but from reading your blog posts, you've definitely got the drive and determination to do it!
I am so excited for you. Good luck on the 21 this weekend. It will be awesome! I am a sucker for inspirational quotes. I have a few on my quotes page- I like yours on the sidebar!
Good luck on your 21 miler. I can't wait to hear how it goes.
How far is your longest run to date? I'd like to do at least 22 before my marathon on 10/3.
Please feel free to come over to my house and do a massive clean any time!! I can't believe I started back to school today and my house is nowhere near where I wanted it to be. Thankfully, Marcia's visit made me clean downstairs but up is another story. Ha. Good luck on the 21-miler - I'd send you some carb loading pizza but I heard it wasn't good fuel for those lucky enough to run ;).
I have read both Belong to Me and Love Walked In though I did read them out of order. I loved them!
