Yakkity Yak

Yesterday Luke had school in the morning again, and Eliza had preschool at the same time. So after the drop offs, I realized I had two and half hours...alone!!! I thought of going out to cross country ski, because I haven't gone at all this year. But then I spied my Yak Traxs sitting alone in the closet, and decided to take them out for an inaugural run.

The temps were in the high 20's, and there was a good amount of snow covering the roads and trails in my neighborhood. It was nice to not have to rush out for a run, then feel pressure to run home to the kids, I just relaxed and went with the flow. I had a spring in my step (pun intended), and my ipod lasted for a staggering eight songs before the cold turned it off (in the middle of Temple of the Dog). I chose a six mile loop that includes several different types of hills. I'm starting to do more inclines in my runs, to prep for two very hilly races I have coming up, the Shamrock Run four miler, and the Mountain Goat ten miler.

I had to go onto the road for one part of the run, when a car turned onto the street going a bit too fast, and started fishtailing toward me. I was all set to hop into the woods, but they got control and stayed away. It's a good thing Mike doesn't read my blog, otherwise my days of running in the snow would be over.

I made it home in 58 minutes. Then I threw together a bit of summer in a glass, a smoothie made with Amazing Grass, Chia seeds, banana, strawberries, and milk. I also had a bunch of water with lemon. I had a dream the other night that I worked out with Jackie Warner, which my friend Jen did for real. According to Jackie, if you add lemon to water, it helps burn calories. I wish she would do another season of Workout.

Speaking of television, I'm not really loving the new season of Lost. Spoiler alert....I'm not digging how they're alternating between the two realities. I want to know what Juliet meant when she said "it worked." I bummed she got killed off, poor Sawyer, love him.

Did you like using the yaktrax? I have the most random dreams! I liked the show Workout... I read somewhere that Bravo did not renew her contract because of the negative comments she made about one of the trainees that had implants, who turned out to be a breast cancer survivor. I'm not sure how true this is but I remember watching that episode and being really appalled at her.

I so wish I had gotten into Lost when it first came out. We have to rent it. It really sounds good.

Do the Yak Teaxs really work? I am pretty klutzy (snow, wet leaves, wet grass-all can cause a tumble)and was looking at getting these... Glad you had some time to yourself. (I'm enjoying that now-kids, hubby, and I are homebound due to snowstorm, but they are outside while I relax here. AHh...)

You are so motivating! I wish I could just bundle up and go out for a run! The most I go out in this cold snowy weather is to take a few pics and throw a few snowballs at the boys and then my butt is back inside in front of my nice warm fireplace! Good for you though! :)

2.5 hours to yourself??? I'm jealous! I'm not-so-jealous of your fishtailing... that's scary stuff! Be careful, girl!

Oh, and about your comment on my blog about TV in the bedroom-- I'm with you, I really like it for background noise!

I liked my Yak Trax pretty well when I used them, but it's not totally the same as running without. What did you think?

Hi Molly,
I would not be a happy camper without my Yaktrax in the winter. I need them and they work wonders for trekking through the snow:) Good job on getting out on the six miler with the fun hills!! I have almost been hit by a car a few times too!! It scares the crap out of me...and then I go through a period of time where I am super paranoid!! Keep smiling Molly:)

Glad you were able to enjoy some alone time - even with the excitement of the run.

Don't give up on LOST!! I think it will somehow get tied together by the end of the season. Hopefully! :)

My mother told me about adding lemon to water - I don't know that it works, but I keep doing it.

WOW - you're great - running in the snow. Way to go!

I run in the cold all the time and I have never had my IPOD shut off! What a pain!

All your running is making my lazy @ss feel bad. Even in the snow?!

And I didn't know that about lemon. Maybe instead of working out, I'll just put some lemon in my water =)

Yay Yaktrax! I know that I keep all my scary running stories to myself otherwise I would be banned from running! Great job getting out there! I haven't run outside in a week because there is just too much ice!

I heard that 'hot water with a squeeze of lemon before breakfast helps lose weight.I've never tried it because I don't think i can drink that before breakfast. Lol,I gotta try this anytime of day.

I still have to watch this week's episode, but I have my fingers crossed.

I'm curious to know what hills you run? I seem to have a hard time finding them around here??

Great job getting out there and running in the snow! the sidewalks are so icy here because most of the businesses didn't clear them yet that I was slipping and sliding on the way to the gym! Can't imagine trying to run, but perhaps the yaktrakx would do the trick!

I just bought Personal Training with Jackie and did a 15 minute lower body circuit today. Liked it! When I have a little more time I'm going to try the 40 minute total body-that should hurt!
