My mind keeps going back to two things about my weekend away, the car ride, and Bourbon Balls.
My cousin's fiance is from Kentucky, and his mom came up to NY for the bridal shower, armed with Bourbon Balls as party favors. Holy cow, how have I not had these before? Chocolate and booze topped with a pecan and wrapped in shiny paper?? I swiped an extra box when no one was looking.
For the trip down and back, I spent a total of nine hours in the car, alone. And I thoroughly enjoyed it, just me and the open road, music blaring, stopping whenever I wanted to. No Kid's Bop, Raffi, or Disney movies on the DVD player, just me and my thoughts. It was heaven. But it was really weird to look in the rear view mirror and not see car seats.
Which brings me to music. I've had Kings of Leon on repeat, and even though I have three ipods currently on rotation, I need some new tunes. So help me out, tell me your favorite songs to work out to, I'm not picky, I go from rock to country to rap to disco to grunge, I just need to keep my groove on.

I just tweeked my running mix for the half marathon I ran a couple weeks ago. Here's some of my favorites:
-1901-Phoenix
-Forever-Chris Brown
-Don't Stop Believing (I have both the Glee version and the Journey version...lol)
-Just Say Yes-Snow Patrol
-Lovers in Japan-Coldplay
-Rock 'N Roll Train-AC/DC (almost anything AC/DC works for me!)
-Thunderstruck-AC/DC
-Just Dance-Lady Gaga
-Danger Zone-Kenny Loggins (aka the Top Gun theme song)
-Learning to Fly-Tom Petty
-Eye of the Tiger-Survivor
-Where Are We Running-Lenny Kravitz
-Decode-Paramore
-Enter Sandman-Metallica
-Jump-Van Halen
-Crash and Burn-Lifehouse
-I Don't Want to Be In Love-Good Charlotte
-Billie Jean-Michael Jackson
I LOVE running with music and honestly don't think I could have done my half marathon without it!
I love driving in the car with a good playlist (or audiobook). I get some of my best thinking done! Some of my current faves are:
Tik Tok- Kesha
Imma Be- Black Eyed Peas
It's My Life- Bon Jovi
So What- Pink
The Climb- Miley Cyrus (don't hate!)
Nothing Else Matters- Metallica (slow and depressing but I like running to it!)
I've recently ended my Kings of Leon run as well.
Now it is a mix of Zepplin, Gn'R and Pearl Jam ... not all that original but it keeps me focused.
Sounds silly, but there are several songs on the madagascar 2 songtrack that I LOVE. I stole my toddlers cd. :)
All of my music tends to be very mellow, like Tracy Chapman and the Indigo Girls. Probably not the best music for work outs. Although, in the nineties, I used to dance to Tony Toni Tone! They are really upbeat!
Bands-
Caribou (check out their newest CD)
Tom Petty (perfect mid run slow it down songs)
Ratatat
Amalie Soundtrack
oh my gosh I am having a brain fart.. I will blame it on mid Tuesday work boredom
Two bands that help me pick up my pace at anytime during a run are OkGo and The Hives. I also find that songs by Kasabian, Toyko Police Club, U2, and The Tragically Hip can get me moving as well.
Injecting new music into the old routine is always a good thing!
I am just about to add Katy Perry's "California Girls" to my running playlist...it has a great beat to it.
I always suggest the Dixie Chicks!
Ummm, can you package some up and send them to me?
I have been going through an "oldies' phase for some reason. My current fave's are Def Leapard, Prince, and Belinda Carlisle. Is that NOT sad? I'm cruising around listening to "You've Got the Look" and "Mad About You". I feel so old.
I'm terrible at adding new music to my i-pod. Good for you for making time to do it. I'm going to have to make that a summer project for me and may tape into your list a bit.
I love working out to Bon Jovi. Probably cause I'm such a huge fan - I highly recommend giving them a try (especially their older stuff).
Now you've reminded me that my playlist is extremely stale!
I made bourbon balls once in high school and put extra liquor in there. We wanted to give them to the principal. He loved it and we got stupid childish joy out of the fact he ate a cookie with alcohol in it. We were such losers.
I love anything Michael Jackson, or Lady Gaga. I really like Bulletproof by La Roux.
Eye of the tiger. It's a good pump-up/fast tempo song.
Wonderful suggestions here, I am working on the same thing. My goal is 31 new songs downloaded by by bday (June 26th) and I am stealing some of these suggestions.
On a side note, Katie H is totally wrong, Nothing Else Matters is not depressing. Great song (my wedding song), because really, nothing else matters:)
My go-to cd on my iPod is Pearl Jam's Backspacer. I know that if I complete my run before the end of the disc I've had a kick-ass 5k tempo run (30min-ish).
