Unsure

It's been a difficult couple of days.

On Wednesday, my father in law suffered a stroke.  You can imagine the range of emotions we're all feeling.  At the moment he is stable, and the doctors are hoping to transfer him to a rehabilitation facility sometime soon.

My stomach has been in a knot, yesterday I had to face the grocery store, with a huge list of things to buy, including a turkey, before they're all gone.

Several months ago, my five girlfriends and I planned a girls weekend away to New Hampshire, for this weekend.  We've been friends for over 25 years.  We don't get to see each other very much, but for the first time in years, we found a date that worked for everyone.

Mike and his brother spent all of yesterday at his Dad's side at the hospital, talking about all sorts of things to fill the time.  I had told Mike I wasn't going to go away this weekend, but he thought I should still go.  When the topic of my girls weekend came up, his Dad looked over at him, and told him I was going.

And that was that.

I feel funny leaving, but my family wants me to.  I figure if I need to come home, I can be back as fast as I can drive (and I can drive fast).

Please send good thoughts his way.

Oh Molly, I am so sorry!! I am thinking lots of good thoughts for your father-in-law. Thankfully he is stable, I hope his recovery/rehab goes well.

Tough to go away, but it might actually do you good to be with your girlfriends. And your father-in-law told you to go, so like you said, you have no choice. HUGS to you Molly.

I'm so sorry to hear this Molly! Sending prayers your family's way!

I think going on the weekend is a good idea but I'm sure it will be hard to leave. Allow yourself to let your girlfriends fill your cup...you'll come back ready to fill others!

Molly - First, (((HUGS))) on the tough week. Many prayers of peace and healing for your f-i-l. I had a similar experience in 2009, but with my own dad. I had planned for MONTHS to go to Vegas with a big group of mom friends. My dad was in the hospital over Memorial Day weekend and we started to plan the funeral. After 3 weeks in the hospital battling a septic blood infection, he managed to rally and come home - exactly a day before I left. My sis had come home from WI to see him thinking it might be the last time she could. He lived another year, but I got a lot of grief from my stepmom over leaving town after I had been by his side for much of the 3 weeks in the hospital. I really needed the break though and I am glad now that I went. The remainder of 2009 and most of 2010 was brutal as both my stepmom and dad passed (12/09 and 6/10). So take the break while you can. Don't feel guilty. It might be the Lord's way of recharging your batteries for whatever life may throw at you. Good girlfriend time is hard to beat for that! More (((HUGS))).

So sorry to hear about your Dad, Molly. I have an idea of where you are, as my Dad has had two strokes. I've spent quite a bit of time in the hospital with him.

We will keep your Dad and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

What a huge range of emotions you must be feeling (elation to see your friends juxtaposed with pain for your FIL with a little anxiety over holiday cooking thrown in as if you didn't have enough already). ((HUGS)). Hope your girls weekend is fun and rejuvinating. Prayers for your FIL and your family!!!

Oh, man. Thoughts for your family - I hope he recovers well.

I totally get what you're saying - I had a similar situation in Feb., right after Gabby was diagnosed, and I was supposed to run Princess in FL. I really didn't want to go. But going didn't change anything, except it relieved some of my built up stress. That's a good thing. Go, and don't feel guilty.

Might not be the easiest time to be away, but it's what your father-in-law wants. Enjoy the time with your girlfriends... they will help you keep your chin up!
