It's Weigh In Wednesday, Week Five. I found out that my scale seems fairly accurate. I went to the doctor last week, and I planned on weighing myself on the same scale I use every time I go there, which is in a bathroom. Of course when I got there, the room was occupied, so a nurse weighed me in the room where they take your blood pressure. I took my shoes off, because I knew the number was going to be higher since I had my clothes on, and I had eaten lunch. After I saw the doc and I was walking out, I saw that the bathroom was open, so I booked in there, shut the door, and whipped off my clothes and shoes, and weighed myself, I was a full 3.2 pounds lighter than what the nurse's scale said. And it was one pound higher than my scale at home.
Which brings me to this morning. I was bad on Saturday, for the second weekend in a row we had to deal with an incident, that I won't go into, but it was annoying. So for dinner Mike and I shared a spinach, onion, mushroom and cheese calzone, with beer for him and wine for me. Weekends are especially tough for me, because we're usually running around, and half the time I'm starving, or I eat all day long. I gave up chocolate for Lent, so Mike brought home a coconut cake, because he knows I like my sugar fix. I haven't touched it, but it's things like that which make losing weight hard. I did run 8 miles on Saturday, but that didn't seem to help.
Mike and I had a discussion about my training, now that I have my race schedule for the year set. Mike vented a bit about our busy weekends, with the kids activities, and my running, and just life in general. I felt bad, he works really hard all week, and he needs some time to do the things he wants to on the weekends. He was so good about my training last summer. So we worked out a plan, I'm going to be doing my long runs on Friday's when possible, while the kids are at summer camp, and in the fall when they'll be at school. It's hard because he's supportive about my running, but I know it gets annoying for him at times. He needs to get time to himself, I think he played golf once all last summer, and he needs to get out there much more this year.
Anyway, my scale said I gained a pound. Which is better than two.
I have an interesting factoid for this week, that I read on Jesse's blog, Run to the Border:
That for every pound of weight you lose, you save 2 seconds per mile.
Ten pounds equals 20 seconds per mile, which grows to a minute-plus in a 5K, more than two minutes in a 10K, nearly 4-1/2 minutes in a half-marathon and almost nine minutes in a marathon.
this is where Jesse found that info.
Hope everyone had a great week!

I am down 1.4, I am really surprised since Saturday I fell off the wagon the whole entire day and took Sunday as an unscheduled rest day because I was so whooped.
Another interesting fact, this is for cyclist, for every 10 extra pounds, you need to use 10 extra watts to maintain the same speed, for example if 2 riders are going 20mph, a 200 pound rider needs to use 30 more watts of energy to go the same pace as a 170 rider.
Skinny = fast.
I have done tests at different weights and the calculations in your post are pretty accurate to my own findings.
I am sucking right now at the weightloss thing. I like your "I gained 1lb, it is better than 2" ha ha
That wrap looks awesome.
I have a hard time on weekends too. I lose during the week and then gain back on the weekend. Sucks.
I do my long runs during the week while my kids are at school. It makes a huge difference in our ability to do fun stuff on the weekend and in my husband's attitude about my running.
Yeah, I hate that little factoid..seen it before. One more reason it's good i"m not racing any time soon!
Don't get down about your one lb.--use it for motivation!
Thanks for that factoid. I've seen it before but forgot the actual pounds/time numbers.
Yes balancing the workout commitment with family is tough. I hope you're able to reach a deal that works for all of you.
I've completely given up on trying to lose weight. It wasn't working, and it was making me miserable and pissing me off, so I quit. Eff it. Five pounds aren't that important. lol
I find that our bodies have a natural weight that is about 7-10 lbs more than what our brain tells us our ideal weight is. It's both frustrating and ridiculous.
I wish my husband understood why I run. It is very hard when I plan a long run and something breaks down and I have to go get a piece for him. But I feel the same way you do, he is a hard worker trying to provide for his family. I should be more flexible. Sometimes I get so wrapped in what I need that I forget about anyone else. Love the factoid. Those pounds are coming off so I can run faster. Hang in their you will get that one pound off.
That's alot of time saved in those shorter distances!
I'm glad your husband was able to vent about how busy life gets. It's so important that both spouses feel like thier needs are being met. Your a good wifey-poo! My hubby and I don't have kids yet so we can fit everything in, but it's something I've been thinking about lately.
2 years already?! It's gone by so fast.
Happy 2 year blogiversary! How fun.
That's so interesting that one pound equals 20 seconds per mile.. neat!
The beans, rice, broccoli and cheese sounds yummy!
Happy 2 year bloggy anniversary!
Down 1 lb exactly.
I know what you mean about life and business. My H stays home with Gabby, and I can't imagine how frustrated I would be staying home while he went to work, then running, all the time. I feel awful, and he never, ever complains. It's great to have supportive H's :D
That tortilla situation looks FANTASTIC. Yum.
Happy bloggy-versary!
I was taught in one of my training classes that you will run about 8 minutes faster in a marathon for every 10 lbs - so yea, that's close to what I learned too.
Ok, back on track girl...no more gaining weight! :)
xo
It's hard to balance all the things everyone wants to do - sounds like you made a great plan to keep everyone happy - Happy is good!
Interesting factoid - a little more motivation to drop these last 5 lbs!
I moved my long runs to Fridays to try to take some pressure off the family weekend schedule - so far so good.
Happy Blogaversary!
I love that you scooted into the bathroom and whipped off your clothes! Interesting that there was such a difference.
I think weekends are tough for lots of us. It's just not as easy to plan meals, and I don't feel like cooking.
Happy blog anniversary!
Happy blog-anniversary!!!!
Here during the week end we put on weight because we have lunch with the children and dinner in some pizzeria. So we need 5 days to lose the weight gained in 2!!!
I hate the doctor scales. I wish they would let you go to a private room and weigh in naked and then the scale would tell them the weight. I wear my lightest clothes to the office and it still doesn't help! :(
Weekends ARE hard, and when you have "incidents" you are bound to stress eat. You are realizing that though!
Keep your head up... you're doing great!
