The last outdoor run I take before winter truly sets in, always stays in my mind. Last year it was a late afternoon run, and as it got dark, it started to snow, and that's when I knew one season ended, and another had begun.
It was the same thing last Friday. I was eager to get out and run, even though it was 27 degrees. I wore my pink compression socks for warmth, running pants, and a sweet hot pink UnderArmour compression shirt that I won from Kim. It's really soft, and fit perfectly. I realized how lucky I was to be getting an hour to run, December is getting busy, and Eliza's school is closing a week earlier than usual, due to construction in the building. So after I dropped her off, I took off on the trails of my neighborhood.
It was a really good run. I don't know if it was the shirt, the cold air, or just being happy. I did have a moment when I did a little dance that was not intentional, when I hit a patch of mud that had an invisible layer of ice on it. I even let out a little whoop while I succeeded in not falling! But as I ran I had that thought in my brain, that this was my last outdoor run of the year before the snow flies. It started that afternoon, and it has been flying ever since.
After six miles, I ran right to my Jeep, hopped in and headed to Toys R Us to get a few more things for the kids, raced back home, hid them in the guest room, then went back out to pick up Miss E. I was so happy to get that run in, the rest of the day was a snap.

The snow just keeps coming! I think we are supposed to get 3-5 more inches today! This morning as I was driving to work I saw a runner out on the snow covered sidewalk! He really must be crazy!
Holy crap, there's a deck under there?!
My cousin-in-law lives outside of Buffalo and she's been telling me they're getting hammered. I feel for ya!
Sighhhhhhhhhh snowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww sighhhhhhhhh
Are your kids old enough to try and "accidently" find their presents?
Oh my... I didn't know that was a picture from this year. WOW! Glad that you had a great run... sounds perfect!
Wow that snow is deep already!!!! That beer is there until spring now ..lol
It is snowing here, too, but not like what you're getting! Stay warm!
wow
and p.s. you header makes me smile everytime I click on your page :)
my condolences ... I think you might get more snow than we get
Holy cow that's a lot of snow! We're having record cold in Florida, but nothing like that! :)
No more running outside :( Catching up....
1) you should buy a turkey roaster if you plan on doing hosting more Thanksgivings. My mom has one (two actually since she prefers two medium size turkeys instead of 1 large) and then her oven is free for all the other sides.
2) It's so cool the inflence your having on your kids!
3) Pizza. thin crust. cheese. Couldn't agree with you more!
4) Love your tatoo!
5) Can't wait to hear what marathon #2 will be!
love you girl.
No snow here, but i think most of my outdoor runs may be over, I don't know how you gusy run in sub-freezing temps.
Not the first time I have said this to someone this week, but a snowblower is a power tool i am happy to never have to own. I have a snow shovel and do not even have to use it every year.
I'm glad you got that final rejuvenating run. You sure had a lot of stuff to do after you ran!
That is an insane amount of snow.
Off to the "mill" now?! ;)
Winter running is so divine...as long as you have decent footing, it's not too cold, not too windy...lots of variables. Glad you got out before the snow came!
You guys got hammered! Please keep it there! ; )
Glad you got that run in - that is a TON of snow!!!
I am glad you had a great run! I hope the snow stays over in your neck of the woods- I don't want it!
Holy smokes that a lot of snow! I'm so not ready for that to head this way yet! Glad you got that run in!
I am happy the shirt worked well! I hope you don't get bombarded with much more snow :)
Wow that is a lot of snow. I see why you can't keep running outside. At least it was a good one!
OMG! I saw all that snow and wanted to crawl into bed! I know it's coming this way, but I'm so not ready for it! Glad you love your new shirt!
Glad you had such a good last run. That's a lot of snow. I love everyone's snow pictures!
I love the way you put this, just that it sticks in your mind...very fun mental image!! Crazy snow, move to Florida!
Holy Snow!! Your must have grocery items are great! Almond milk...I might have to give that one a go....we usually have soy but I'm reading some bad things about that lately. Glad you had a good run despite the snow!
HOLY SNOW BATMAN! that is impressive! we have not gotten nearly as much as you have—which is a huge surprise. we are usually snowed in at this point as well.
Wow, that's a lot of snow! We had a big dump a few weeks ago, but now a warm spell is melting it all. It's nice to not worry about ice while running, but I want a white Christmas!
Winter is here!!! It is so pretty:) I just wish that it wouldn't stay around as long as it does!
Molly, e-mail me at jkaiser4 at fairview.org
I need your address.
Take care and have a great day! Hugs:)
I admit, in those conditions I would use the "dreadmill" too.
I would totally have to go and throw my entire body in that fresh snow!
I am loving the name Eliza!
I am so jealous of your snow!
Glad you enjoyed your final outdoor run, the right gear definitely makes the difference.
I personally loved running through the worst of our snow last year. I am, however, not predisposed to falling!
