Virtual Run for Sherry Arnold

Winter has been mild in Syracuse this year, which is bizarre. Last winter we had over 120 inches of snowfall, and this year? Maybe 30?  Earlier in the week I asked my running buddies Jeannine and Norine if they wanted to head out and run the Tipp Hill Shamrock Run course this weekend, since it's coming up in a few weeks.  Although it's only four miles, it's full of killer hills, so it's a good idea to run it a few times before race day.

I also wanted to take part in Shut Up And Run's Virtual Run for her cousin Sherry Arnold, which is what we did today.  I woke up and it was in the twenties, we actually got a dusting of snow last night, and it was still coming down a bit when I left the house.  I made it to Burnett Park by eight o'clock, and we took off.

It was pretty icy in spots, I kept my eyes on my feet the whole time.  It felt good to be out in the cold, moving up and down the hills.  Although I had to walk down one in particular, I easily could have wiped out
.

I thought of Sherry more than once.

This is the worst hill, and it comes at the end of the race, it's a steady climb to the finish.  There is a stop sign at the top, and I keep it in my sight, because once I reach it, I know the worst is over.

That's Jeannine.

It was a really good run.

This virtual race was a wonderful way to celebrate the life of a fellow runner.

I wish Sherry's family peace.

Love the energy of so many runners thinking of Sherry and dedicating todays miles to her. I get teary just thinking about it. I ran for her too.

Beautiful. I'm heading out soon. I had to shuffle my schedule due to some motherly duties.

I didn't think Syracuse ever had mild winters. It is certainly an unusual one.

For once in this crazy world of ours, I think we are having colder and more snowy weather than you! It was sooo cold this morning on our run for Sherry - but it was a good cold, you know? I'm sure Sherry was smiling big for you and your friends today!

I had to run yesterday and I lucked out with lovely weather. Today was kind of nasty...

Great job running on the slick roads! I'm afraid I doubt I'd be so brave.

This really has been a crazy winter! But we are being pounded with lake effect snow now - not sure if you guys are getting any of this but its quite a change! Great job getting out yesterday for that run - I ran with my group but was thinking about Sherry and being thankful that I am able to run.

I haven't had to run in ice or snow yet this year - I'm wondering if we might continue on this coldless streak for the rest of the month and head straight into spring!!

Yep, ran in snow here too. Our roads and sidewalks are super clear though, no snow or ice on them. That downhill looks treacherous with all the ice!

Great job! Conditions look a bit treacherous. Do you wear anything special to help you from slipping?

Awesome!

Are the streets not slippery?

We had a half on Sunday and that's when we ran and I thought of Sherry's family.... I wish them peace, too.

Great way to honor Sherry. I too felt it appropriate to select a tough course for this one. We have that exact weather today, supposed to be topped with treacherous freezing drizzle. Nice.

That was terrific motivation to do it! (I was a little worried you'd fall or hurt yourself though.)
