Thursday Three: Be Good

1. This Sunday, Syracuse is hosting the inaugural Empire State Marathon, and Half Marathon.  I have friends who are running both distances, but never signed up because I knew the race fell during my marathon training, and I didn't want to throw another race into the mix.

Pez is feeling good, and holding up.  I ran Monday, biked Tuesday, and yesterday, ran 5 miles of hills.  Today is a rest day, tomorrow is biking, Saturday is a long run, whose length is to be determined.  While I was at PT the other day, I casually mentioned to Michelle that Empire State is this weekend, she gave me a look, and said "You are NOT running it! You're NOT!  The last thing you need is to go all out, and hurt your knee at this stage of the game, NYC is less than three weeks away. Be good."

Okay Michelle, I'll be good.  But I'm still raring to go.

2. I finally used a gift card to Barnes & Noble, that I got for a Christmas gift.  It is very unlike me to wait so long to visit B&N, especially when free books are involved.  I bought this:

and I can't put it down.  It's very inspiring, and I love how I can picture in my head the neighborhoods he writes about.  I'm hosting book club in January, and I told Mike that I was going to pick the Long Run for it.  He didn't think everyone would want to read about running, and I was completely baffled. Doesn't everyone want to read about running?

3. I caught a few minutes of Kathie Lee & Hoda the other morning (roll your eyes, but they crack me up), and they were talking about some study that said running causes wrinkles.  That would not be good, but just in case, I bought this.

I'll let you know in 12 long weeks if my running wrinkles disappear......

I remember when Hoda trained for a triathlon, they aired the training, thats when I lost repect for her because of the lack of respect she had for my sport

Is that the book that is contraversial? I dont know why it is? Just word of mouth

Running causes wrinkles? Really!

You should go volunteer! If you can't run, it's the next best thing :)

I am glad that you found my new blog!

Also...I think it's kind of weird that they said running causes wrinkles. I guess it could be more from just being out in the sun/elements, rather than actually the running itself...

Anyway, in the last year or so I have noticed that I have acquired quite a few wrinkles around my eyes. I think it's due to the fact that I will be turning 40 in less than a year and a half. LOL!

So now I know why I am a wrinkled mess! Worth it.

Glad your knee is holding up. And that you are restraining yourself from running this weekend. Next year make it your fall marathon!

I am guessing the wrinkles are from being outside and lack of sunscreen? Regardless, I love Philosophy! Let us know how the book is!

I just finished that book today! I started it yesterday. Yup, a can't put down and a must read! (I teach college and gave 3 exams in the last 2 days, so finding time to read it was easy.)

A must read for the book club. Duh...who doesn't want to read about running? The book is so motivational, on so many levels.

Can't wait to hear how you like the book. I've been eying it for a while now!

Kathie Lee and Hoda crack me up. Do you think they are drunk a lot?

2. Love Philosophy face stuff. I'm all about Hope in a Jar, and Purity face cleanser.

lol...that's silly. If anything, running keeps them away. I'm the most stressed adn worried when I cna't run. I'm guessing neither of them run?

You made the right thing not to race before the marathon.
Now I know why I have the wrinkles....
Have a good week-end.
